Beginner.
No Belt
You may be asking yourself, why not a White Belt? Aren’t you supposed to get a White Belt immediately as you start practicing karate? Well, the answer is simple, not if you join the Fierce Tiger Martial Arts Association. We understand that for the student to receive the first advancement, White Belt, he or she will have to acquire a basic knowledge of our system’s culture. This will include the formalities of entering and exiting the dojo, how to address the instructors, how a class begins and ends, and the proper dress code among other things.
Discipline and structure are an integral part of our system as well; the time as a beginner is also designed for the student to adapt to the rigors of our system.
To acquire a White Belt the student should learn and understand some of the directives given to the class, in Japanese, which is the language spoken by the founders of Gojū Ryū. Some of these are: to count from one to ten, to form a line, and the names of basic stances, strikes, and blocks.
In addition to what was explained above, the student will have to learn a few stances, punches, blocks, and kicks and will be tested to earn a promotion to White Belt.
