Brown belt.
2nd and 1st Kyu
Congratulations on achieving your Brown Belt. With any journey, it is important to occasionally stop and take stock of just how far you have come. Think back to your very first class; a nervous student entering the dojo for the first time, trying to grasp even the simplest of techniques. Think of your first grading and how nervous you would have been. You may be one of the many beginners who would never have thought of getting so far in karate. Now here you are, proudly wearing a Brown Belt, and forging your way towards your ultimate advancement goal of becoming a Black Belt!
Now that you are a Brown belt you will continue your journey into refining your advanced techniques (including foot sweeps, hook kicks, spinning kicks, etc.). Brown Belt means you continue to successfully demonstrate “advanced” techniques, as well as develop a sound knowledge of the Seiunchin and Shisochin katas. This is because your advancement rank suggests you have developed a sound understanding of your body and can therefore quickly adapt to new techniques and principles.
Of course, you still have much to learn and work on to achieve your Black Belt, but this makes for an exciting journey ahead. From this section forward, only the new katas will be specified but testing will include all the knowledge you have acquired throughout your journey. We trust you will find plenty of both inspiration and education in this section to keep you on track with your journey and moving toward your next advancement in rank.
